So, I am in bed reading WIRED when I notice an ad for Sprint (my carrier of choice). It’s about bar codes on mobile phones, a hot topic I think –one day, hopefully soon, I will be able to get on a plane or retrieve any kind of reservation simply by showing a bar code on the screen of my Tréo.
Right now, the ad tells me to send a text to 70734 with the word "scan," and seconds later I receive a response with a URL. I download the ScanLife application, take a picture of the bar code on the Centro on the ad, all of this because Sprint promises some nice freebies (yes, I am a sucker!). I do everything they ask me to do, only to end with free ringtones and wallpapers.
Lame –my ringtones are mp3s and my wallpapers are pictures I took myself. I don’t need free NFL ringtones…
The prizes are disappointing, but the experiment is interesting. Bar codes on my Tréo? I am ready!
